Persun nicely contrasts the two twins. Lewis, the dreamy artist, more one with nature than with the world, and Jeffrey the pragmatic businessman, the popular one, the athlete. He effectively draws the two twins together in a mutual respect for one another's individual dispositions that is fed by the fact that they realize they have an unusual bond. Jeffrey eventually turns from the 'mean' brother to the one person who sticks with Lewis in his struggle.
