Being woke is not something we are born with. It is a conscious decision that we take to learn, understand the world around us and use that information to make our, and other people's, lives better. We are all born with the shackles of some sort of bias, whether it be stereotypes against communities, internalized misogynism, subtly disguised colorism or elitism. It is something we cannot control, since it is what we have learned from the environment around us, but living, blindly, blissful within our own ignorance, is something that we can be held accountable for. It is necessary to look within ourselves, grab a hold of the mental stereotypes that persist within us and break away from them. That is the only way we can live to our fullest potential.
