Description: This book provides an in-depth review of the scientific literature exploring the role of inflammation in the airways in general and in asthma in particular.
Purpose: The goal is to present a state-of-the-art, comprehensive overview of the biology of airway inflammation and its potential therapeutic implications. Given the important of inflammation of asthma as well as in many other disease entities, this is a worthy objective.
Audience: The book, with contributions by world-renowned experts in the field, clearly meets these objectives. Subspecialists such as allergologists, pulmonologists, and biomedical scientists will be interested in the book and will likely enjoy it.
Features: The book covers both the immunological and nonimmunological mechanisms of airway inflammation. It also covers, although less extensively so, the clinical and therapeutic implications of such mechanisms.
Assessment: This is a welcome addition to the current body of literature. Although some of the topics covered here overlap with other recent books from the same publisher, it is of superior quality and worthwhile reading.
