Chapter One
Hearts Joined through SharingThere is a bridge to the heart of the one you love.
Peace
When we sit together by the lake, looking out at the cool, clear lake water lapping against the shore, it's so lovely to feel the warm mountain air as it blows gently across our faces.
We lift our eyes to look at the sky, and we see the beautiful clouds as they drift slowly and gently along. It's so relaxing to sit here with you by my side.
As these soft white clouds pass above, I think about how beautiful they look against the blue sky— and then something catches my eye. Look! One is shaped just like a car! And that makes us smile.
I close my eyes and take a deep breath. I can feel the peace of this moment in my heart because you are here beside me. It's so nice to sit here by the water with you.
Can you feel the breeze blowing lightly across your face? Take a deep breath and feel the presence of peace in your heart too. It is calm like the smooth water.
It's so nice to be enjoying this moment with you. While we sit quietly here together, we know we are loved.
Mountain Drive in the Fall
Lets take a drive along the mountain road and see all the amazing colors of fall! It's so beautiful. And as we drive along the road, going up and down the hills and around the corners, talking and laughing, the cool air rushes in through the window and feels refreshing against our faces. The trees are ablaze with brilliant colors, and the landscape is spreading out before us in an awesome array of yellows, oranges, and reds. Look! There is a beautiful tree; it's full of yellow leaves. Lets stop and take a picture.
Each color reminds me of the beauty that comes with each season of life. I stand by your side, looking out over the meadow. We brought a picnic lunch to share so I say, "Lets eat!" and I bring out the food for you....
We are having so much fun together on this beautiful drive.
Standing by the side of the winding mountain road, we see the rows of trees that line the way. The sights and sounds of the world around us fill us with a sense of wonder. Aha! Lets take another picture to show everyone we love the magnificent colors that surround us today.
Did you enjoy our drive through the mountains today? I did!
Winter Storm
Sometimes after a winter storm passes by, there is silence in the forest. It is beautiful to hear how quiet it is. Listen. It's so quiet. Lets put on our snow boots, gloves, and warm winter coats, and go for a walk in the snow.
Look at the sky! It is amazingly blue. There is snow on the branches of the pine tree. How long do you think it will be before the sun steals the snow away?
How beautiful it is when the snow falls softly to the ground. The world around us is all wrapped up in white. Lets walk a few more steps.
The air is crisp and cold against our faces. Brrr ... Your cheeks are pink and so are mine! Have you ever looked into a snow globe after you have shaken it and watched the snow fall gently on the little world inside? You may see something beautiful if you look very closely— two frozen drops of melted snow, hanging delicately from the needles of a pine tree.
Springtime Tulips
I love springtime in the mountains! Oh look, our tulips are finally blooming! What beautiful tulips we have. It's fun to plant a whole bunch in our front yard so people can enjoy them as they walk by.
Wow!
What an array of colors. Look at the yellow ones, my favorites. What color do you like? I think I also like the red and pink ones too. Do you?
I love the tulips as much as I love you!
Lets take some inside and bring in a little springtime! After a long winter, the beautiful tulip bouquet makes us feel so happy. Do you feel happy? I do. Thank you, Lord, for the tulips in the springtime. We are blessed by your love for us all!
Flying
Flying! What would it feel like to fly? Have you ever dreamed you were soaring so free and so light through the air, with no fear in your heart, happy and alive?
As you fly, you can look down at the amazing world and the majestic mountains.
Then you tilt your body just a little to the side and glide along with the current that carries you up so easily, and then you rise higher and higher until you think, I am really flying high!
If you reach out your arms, you may be able to imagine soaring out into the world like an eagle with no fear, looking over the amazing mountains and seeing all there is to see. Flying so free; flying is amazing! And so are you.
Puppy Love
Hello, little puppy! I love little puppies, don't you? Come here, little puppy; I want give you a big kiss on your soft, furry, little puppy face! I love you, little puppy.
I touch your little head and pick you up, and you lick my face, giving me kisses back. You are so funny. We are really enjoying watching you play with your sisters and brothers. I get a little sock and play tug of war with you, and you growl and pull, and we are having so much fun playing together. Then you get sleepy, and you crawl into your little bed to snuggle up and sleep after your playtime.
You are the cutest puppy ever! Aren't we all thankful God put little puppies here to love? I am!
Together we watch as the puppies fall asleep. I think I feel sleepy too; don't you? I am so thankful for the puppies here for us to love. I look at you, and I realize how very thankful I am that God put you here for me to love too.
Vacation in the Caribbean
Oh my goodness! We are going on vacation! Do you want to come with us? We are going to have a great time. Lets pack our suitcases and head to the Caribbean Sea for an amazing swim in the aqua blue water. Here I go! Come with me!
It's so warm, and it feels so good. Can you taste the salty water? The waves are rolling in so gently against the rocks. It so relaxing, and when the waiter walks by, I ask him for a fruity drink! While I'm waiting for my drink, I put my feet into the water and let the waves wash over my feet. It feels great!
I think Ill take a break and have my fruity drink and lie down on the lounge chair and visit with you. Hey, lets get you a fruity drink too! I love to go on vacation! Look at that sea!
Grocery Shopping
Yummy food!
It's time to go grocery shopping again! What shall we buy today? What looks good? Wow, those apples over there seem really crunchy and sweet.
Yum! We love potatoes too! We love mashed potatoes with gravy—who doesnt?—and sweet potato pancakes smothered with butter and syrup, topped with peaches and whipped cream! Yummy! Lets get some potatoes.
What would you like to buy today at the grocery store? There are so many things to buy. What is your favorite food? Yum, I like that too! Look at the produce in this grocery store. Everything we love to eat is here, and I bet there are even some things we have never tried!
Fourth of July
It's the fourth of July weekend, and they hung out the flag. It looks amazing up there, blowing in the wind. Look at the American flag. I feel very patriotic, don't you? Lets sing "America, the Beautiful"......
Or we could recite the Pledge of Allegiance like we did in elementary school. Remember those words? "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
Wow! Do you know that this pledge was written by Frances Bellamy, a Baptist minister? It really means a lot to live in a "nation under God with liberty and justice for all." Lets celebrate!
What do you want to do this fourth of July? Lets go watch the fireworks. Look! Theres another flag.
And another one!
Lets go get a barbequed hamburger, and then when it gets dark, we can watch the fireworks. I love celebrating with you!
Kayaking Day at the Lake
We are here at the lake! The breeze is warm, and it is the most relaxing day ever. We had the best lunch across the way, and now we are going to go kayaking. Are you ready to jump into the boat and take off across the lake? Do you need a life jacket in case you fall in?! I am not planning on tipping over or falling into the icy cold lake water. Are you? Look at those colorful kayaks. Which one do you want?
I think I like the red one. How about yellow for you? We need paddles. Lets take them down to the water. Here we go—are you ready?
Are you having a good time? I sure am. I can't wait to float around in the kayak and paddle around with you. I might splash you with my paddle! But I know you don't want to get wet, so I will be nice. But if I splash you, you will probably splash me back! Well, lets get in and try it. It's sort of wobbly when you first get in, someone needs to push us away from the shore! Maybe that little boy who is pushing the rock can help us! Ouch, ouch! The sand is really hot on our feet.
Well lets hop in! Okay—this will be so fun!
After this, we can take a nap on the beach and go and have an ice cream. Yum! What a great day at the lake with you. I love you!
Band in the Park
There are so many instruments to listen to. I feel like going to the park today, and guess what? The orchestra is playing in the park today. We can take a picnic and sit on the grass and listen to the music! What a way to spend an afternoon. Look at those horns! Oh, they sound so beautiful.
I love music, don't you? Music is the way to my heart. I know we both love music. There are so many songs to listen to. Lets see what they will play. Oh, I like that song, but I don't know the name of it do you? It's a song from a movie—maybe the theme from Star Wars or The Pink Panther. There are so many kinds of horns in the band. Look at that one the man is holding on his lap. I wish I could play in a band, don't you?
If you could play in a band, what instrument would you play? I would like to play the big drum!
I like the sound of it best of all. Boom! Boom! Boom!
When we listen to the music together, I think of the times we both danced together in the living room.
I want to dance right now, don't you? Well, maybe we should wait until we get home, okay? I love you.
The Ball
Well, that looks like fun, doesn't it? Those boys are playing with the big ball. Look how colorful it is. They're trying to keep it up in the air. I wonder how long they will be able to keep it up before one of them misses!
I'll bet we would have fun if we played ball like that, don't you? Well, it's fun to watch the boys play. They hit the ball all around, and it goes way up in the sky. It's a beautiful day to play ball in the park.
It's sunny and warm, and everyone is having fun! Were having fun too.
Oops! Looks like someone missed and the ball is on the ground! Maybe we should go get it and give it back to the boys? Nope, I think they are coming to get it right now, and we can just sit here and relax and watch them play. I like being here with you today.
What a great day were having. Shall I run up and kick it? Oh too late, they are already there. Have fun boys!
Pond
Lets take the kids down to the pond and have a picnic. It's a hot summer day, and a dip in the pond will feel great!
Should we take the inflatable rafts? In the summertime, I love to float on the cool water and feel it on my feet as I paddle around kicking and splashing. The warm sun on my back is so relaxing. Look at those kids; they have the right idea!
Maybe we should swim all the way to the other side. I bet the water is cold—brr. I don't know; what do you think?
Do you want to try to swim to the other side? The boys are trying to do it. Look, they made it all the way over there.
Are you ready? Here we go! Well, maybe we should float a little a longer.
Or we could just sit by the side of the pond and enjoy the sunshine together. This is fun!
Shoes by the Water
It's a hot day! What do you say we take off our shoes and walk over to the water so we can put our feet in and cool off? First, you take off your shoes.
Then I will take off my shoes.
And then well sit on the rock by each other and see how we like it.
I like it, and I feel safe with you by my side. And it feels really good to put my feet in the water. Don't worry, I wont fall in! I love how you take care of me and make sure I am safe. This feels so good on my feet. Do you like it too? Great! Lets just sit here together for a while, okay? Then lets go get a popsicle!
Fishing
What a lovely day to go fishing! I am so excited. My brother and I pack up the ice chest and get the fishing pole and head up to the lake. I want you to come along too! Lets jump in the truck and go to the most beautiful fishing spot ever.
We get the fishing pole and hand it to my brother, and he puts the power bait on that hook, and off it goes, splash, into the water. We sit down and wait by the edge of the water. Nothing. So we wait a little longer, and I see the tip of the fishing pole wiggle a little. Do you see it? My brother grabs the pole and ...
Yay!! Hes got a fish. He reels that fish in, and it's swimming around. When he pulls back on the fishing pole, he sets the hook, and he brings that fish into the shore. I grab the net and scoop it up, and wow, we are having fresh trout for dinner!
Yummy! Do you like trout fresh from the lake? I do. How do you like to cook it? Lets cook it up on the barbeque tonight and eat outside in the warm summer night. I can smell that barbeque now—can't you? It was fun fishing with you today. Lets go again soon, okay? I love fishing with you!
Sunset
Tonight.
Lets go and see the most amazing sky we have ever seen. As the sun sets, we sit and watch and the colors displayed in the distance. Have you ever watched a prettier sunset? Who can imagine how many times the sky has lit up with these brilliant colors or how many people have watched the sun as it sit's behind the silhouette of the mountains?
Each second, the sky changes as the sun gradually disappears, and I wonder as I sit by you if anyone else is watching the sky tonight.
I feel it is a gift for us to see this spectacular show, and I am so glad we didn't miss it.
We have seen so many sunsets, each as special as the one before. The sky fills with color, and I feel that there is nothing more beautiful than this moment together. As we watch the sky, the sun fades slowly out of sight, and soon it is almost time to go home.
Let's wait a few more minutes until we can't see it anymore, okay? Then well go home.
Campfire
Well, looky there! We're getting ready to build a campfire. "It's summertime and it's reminds me of the song 'Summertime, because we have been fishing and relaxing and enjoying each moment, so lets sit by the fire tonight and sing songs and tell stories. What do you say?"
Lets pull up a chair, okay? It's a perfect night for a campfire, and we can talk and laugh and watch the flames flickering in the dark. It's mesmerizing and relaxing to watch the fire burning. Sometimes we have to move around the other side because of the smoke. Oops! Should we move? Here comes some smoke; it's heading our way.
It's getting pretty dark now, and I feel sleepy. What about you? Watching the flames always makes me feel sleepy. I could sit and watch a campfire for hours with you. Do you want to sing a song?
Home, home on the range, Where the deer and the antelope play; Where seldom is heard a discouraging word And the skies are not cloudy all day. Aah. Im tired. Lets go get in our sleeping bags and go to sleep. Good night. I love you.
