About the Author

Faye Turner-Johnson

As a young child, whenever anyone asked me what I
wanted to be when I grew up, I always responded
enthusiastically that I wanted to be a singer! I can’t say
from where this desire arose since I didn’t know anyone
(including myself) who could sing. If given the
opportunity to respond to my confessed lack of vocal
talent, my sisters would gladly shout “amen” to that! By
the time I had reached the age of 8 or 9, I had stopped
telling people that, but somewhere deep in my heart the
desire still burned within me. Though I realize I will
never, ever stand on anyone’s stage belting out a tune, I
have learned to sing with the rhythm of each play I
direct; with each character I portray onstage; and with
each poem I write. My desire now, as it was when I was
a young child, is to make a connection with the world; to,
as Don Henley sings, “get to the heart of the matter,” in
trying to make this earth a better place for us all to live.
I want to create art in clean, straight lines, that take you
right to the point, without a lot of clutter and I hope there
are those I can touch who wish to take this journey with
me
