Taylor is sweet, helpful, and a human doormat. She simply can't say no or stand up for herself. She can't say no when her mother pushes her to learn the family business when she'd rather write, and she doesn't speak up when her rival classmate, Sandra, pulls a prank and signs her up to volunteer at the Golden Oaks nursing home all summer. Maude is everything Taylor is not. She's abrasive and straightforward, but their differences rub off on each other. As Maude softens towards Taylor, Taylor's difficulties are tripled when her brother's cute best friend comes around.
