Overview

In Tiny Hearts Sing Loud: Birds & Haiku, artist and travel writer Necee Regis pairs twenty two whimsical bird paintings with poetry, a project begun during the pandemic lock down. It is designed to appeal to the thousands of people who fell in love with birds and bird watching at that time, and who continue to be entranced by these magical creatures today.

The paintings for this book were made in Mexico, observed on the hillside adjacent to Regis' winter seaside aerie, and in Cape Cod, upon returning to her home. She was subsequently asked to contribute to a poetry project in Miami relating to the bird paintings. Those first haiku led to a larger, personal project of penning one poem for each painting.
