If that makes sense to you, buy the book and learn more details about personal finance. What the terms mean, how they fit together, and how to make best use of your money:

  • Assets- stocks, bonds, options, mutual funds, ETFs and more.

  • How to allocate money across your accounts.

  • How to diversify investments to manage risk..

  • How to choose individual stocks.

  • Mortgages - how they work and features to consider.

  • Psychology and Finance- why investing scares us and how to deal with it..

  • FAQ - how do I do X? - real questions asked by young people with thoughtful answers.

You know this stuff is important. It's not particularly hard but it's not really covered in high school or college, so take the time to read a book. I wrote it to make a difference for my kids and nieces and nephews. Their parents said they learned some things. I hope you do too!

About the Author

Tom Robbins-Milne was born in Fairview Park Ohio and went to high school there. His dad was a very successful investment manager who was elected CFA President in 1974. His mom was a nurse until she retired to have kids. Tom graduated from Cornell University where he met his wife who now teaches and practices Pediatrics at Columbia Presbyterian. Tom has worked on Wall Street since 1986, writing software for options analytics in C/C++, and managing wonderful teams doing the same at a number of investment banks. In addition to personal finance, his hobbies include history, wood working, and cutting firewood. He’s the happy father of three kids who he loves deeply and inspire him to be a better person. And caretaker of the most awesome dog in the world: Sugar Magnolia, named after his third favorite Grateful Dead song. He’s a lucky guy.
