Chapter One

INSPIRATION

Poetry And The Simple Man

I write poems for the simple man, Words for everyone to understand. In hopes of touching someone, From my heart and through my hand.

I wish for just one smile, Maybe a tear of serenity. My goal would be complete, Bringing poems to the minority.

Poetry for me, is emotional art, I share joy, and I show pain. My style is keeping it simple, For the less fortunate to obtain.

So many are not as fortunate, They have no funds for college. That is the reason I keep it simple, I use words of common knowledge.

My wish is to write a poem, Bring joy to whomever I can. I keep my poems filled with love, Yes, I am a simple man!

Between The Lines

Sometimes a simple letter, Is all the love we need. A means of communication, The type of language we can read.

Sometimes it's a thank you, For things that we have given. Sometimes it's a grievance, For the kind of life we're living.

Overall it's good to know, That someone could really care. It's the words they have not spoken, The true meaning that they share.

A letter comes together, With each line well defined. If we could only take the time, To read between the lines.

Decisions

Sometimes we just wish, We could turn back time. Change decisions we've made, Inflicting that uphill climb.

Sometimes we just wish, We could be young again. To imagine Cowboys and Indians, Where we could always win.

Sometimes we just wish, Everything would go our way. That the decisions we make tomorrow, Will be better than the ones today.

Sometimes we just wish, Choosing our friends came easy. We may have to watch our backs, Finding them, dishonest and sleazy.

The decisions we make today, Will have a lasting effect tomorrow. Always remember what we wish, There will be fewer days of sorrow.

Generations

As we walk in the shadows, Of dark generations past. We hold ourselves to wonder, Will future generations last?

So many secrets haunt this land, Hidden within confidential shame. While someone is responsible, No one accepts the blame.

When it's all said and done, We have the freedom to choose. To make a difference in our world, Or future generations will lose.

We can say, "That it doesn't matter, That we will be dead and gone." We have a responsibility, For our children to live safely on.

Time is a precious asset, Live life, to enjoy each minute. Treat our world with respect, So generations can still live in it!

Freed!

"I am asking you Lord, Why is it me, Why am I here, Is there something for me?"

"Have I disobeyed your word, Are you chastening me, Am I doing your will?" I pray let it be!

"Dear Lord , you're with me, Whenever I'm in need. You've never left me stranded, From sin, I've been freed!"

I'm praying for your wisdom, Thy will be done! In your hands I'm walking, With the light that is your Son!

A Real Man

A real man isn't supposed to cry, Well, who is really to say? It doesn't make him less of a man, In any kind of way.

We are taught in our society, That we shouldn't shed a tear. Being a real man means, We cannot show any fear.

We grow up thinking, it's alright, That it's normal to be tough. I would really like to know, What real man, wrote this stuff?

Being tough is a real man, One, who is not afraid to cry. A real man says, "I Love You!" He would lay down his life and die.

A real man doesn't walk away, He is always by your side. Giving you the best of his heart, His true feelings, he doesn't hide.

He is not afraid to hold you, Keep you warm at night. You know he has to be real tough, Because in his arms, he holds you tight!

A real man will shed a tear, When from his love, he is apart. He tells you how he misses you, That you are always in his heart!

Would You Recognize?

If you were walking down the street, Filled with all the homeless people. Would you recognize the man, That is looking to the steeple?

If you were standing in the midst, Of all the children starving. Would you recognize the man, Who is offering them his garden?

If you were fighting in the war, In the middle of Iraq. Would you recognize the man, Carrying the wounded on his back?

If you were living in a world, Corrupted with so much bad. Would you recognize the man, Who is looking very sad?

This man I am describing, Has a look you'll recognize. This loving man is Jesus, With teardrops in his eyes!

A Better Day

Tomorrow brings much wisdom, From the trials we endure today. It seems it can't be conquered, There seems to be no way.

Just come to the realization, In the bad, there is some good. If it wasn't for all the bad times, Good times would be misunderstood.

In this life will come a time, When all must feel some pain. Neither wealth, nor happiness, Will stop the crying in the rain.

Take time to stop and ponder, Look in the mirror and say, "I remember the good times, Tomorrow will be A Better Day!"

Sleeper

One day to wake, From a slumbering sleep. You look in amazement, Your mind starts to creep!

The life you once started, Has come to an end. You look for redemption, With nothing to spend.

Time could have been, For better resolution. Now that you're here, There's no substitution.

You wake to a nightmare, To find it's too late. It was to be different, To never procrastinate.

You should have awakened, Before it got deeper. Now, you must pay, The price of a sleeper!

The Way Around the World

The Way Around The World, Is not by bus, train or plane. It's the way you reach out to others, Through the unbroken love chain.

The Way Around The World, Is the happiness you give others. The love you have within your heart, Bestowing peace to your sisters and brothers.

The Way Around The World, Is lending a helping hand. Enjoying each day you're living, Taking pride in this beautiful land.

The Way Around The World, Is to live in God's sweet grace. Love your neighbor as yourself, Make a more compatible human race.

The Way Around The World, Is not by means of flying. The way love flows through your heart, Is always the quickest most satisfying!

Puzzle Undone

I feel like a puzzle, The task incomplete. Pieces are missing, An impossible feat.

The pieces are near, Just out of my grasp. At the tip of my fingers, I need something to clasp.

These pieces are important, To complete the picture. The agonizing pain, I must finish this venture.

There is just one obstacle, It must be transparent. Something is holding me back, It's presence, not apparent.

My life is the puzzle, The pieces are the answer. The obstacles interrupting, I must somehow dismantle.

To finish the puzzle, To conquer the maze. Fill the void in my heart, Removing this Haze!

The Passion Within

The fire within me, Burns deep inside. My desire sears my soul, With nothing to hide.

Pressure is building, Like steam in a kettle. The feeling inside me, Is molten like hot metal.

Hidden deep inside me, For so very long. It brings much confusion, Something is so wrong.

Once I release it, The pressure is gone. To end the old day, To start a new dawn.

My life will be different, The new fire will win. Release the old pressure, The Passion Within!

In The Middle

Strive to go up, Not, to go down. Turn to the right, Just don't turn around.

To stay in the middle, Lacks little effort taken. Push to go forward, Enjoy the compensation.

Never stay In The Middle, Move patiently to the front. You only move backwards, When you decide to give up.

Once to the back, Use it for a blessing. When you're furthest down, Teach others this valuable lesson.

Keep your focus forward, Even when you're in the back. Push up past the middle, You'll be on the right track!

Immorality

Proportionate is the mind, In harmony, relatively balanced even. Society teaches one thing, Then takes away it's moral reason.

They tell us of Immorality, That drugs and violence are so wrong. Yet, you see it in every movie, You hear it in every song.

The earliest part of our history, Was based on, God we stand! But take the Bible out of school, The Ten Commandments must be banned?

You've never heard a criminal say, "The Ten commandments told me so!" For every law in our country, Was based on them, you know!

Somehow, we must wake up, Replenish our country's slack. Place the Bible in our schools, Put the Ten Commandments back!

Path To Self Destruction

I'm closer to going nowhere, Than I am to staying here. The path that leads so far away, Is the path so very near.

I think I'm going somewhere, Then, the path it starts to end. I try to walk a straight line, But, the path it has a bend.

I'm wandering aimlessly in a circle, Everything is so familiar to me. I don't know where I'm going, My destination is hard to see.

I know now, I'm on the right path, My map is showing clear instruction. If I exit off the straight path, I'll be on the Path To Self Destruction!

Night Fears

Somewhere in the midst, Of all my nightly sorrow. I must endure the pain, For one more tomorrow.

To wake to a new day, The sunny blue skies. What more to live for, Than one more sunrise.

The warmth of the sun, Makes a new day begin. Evaporating the dewdrops, From the evening therein.

Give me the sunshine, To help warm my spirit. Night-time will come again, There's no need to fear it!

Unknown Journey

Sometimes, when I'm feeling down, I look up into the big blue sky. I wish I could soar away, If I only had wings to fly!

I could fly away, to never look back, Venture to unknown places. Feel the moisture in the clouds, Leaving none, if any small traces.

Soaring over the ocean so broad, Looking down at my shadow below. The dolphins playing so zealously, As if giving, a Broadway show!

Maybe one day, I'll awaken surprised! Stretching a shirt over my head, Stopped by a growth of overnight wings, That came, while I slept in my bed.

Then I could run and stretch my wings, Flying from here to eternity. Never to look back where I've been, Thus, beginning my Unknown Journey!

Wings of An Angel

Angels don't need wings to fly, They are here for you and me. They are sent to protect us, Sometimes you may never see.

Their wings are a gift, Given from Heaven above. God gave them their wings, To wrap us with his love.

They wrap their wings around us, To comfort in times of need. They keep us warm and safe, To listen as we plead!

Angels don't need wings to fly, They are always by your side. You may not know when or where, In whom they might reside.

An angel could be anyone, Sent to guide you along. To keep you out of trouble, To help you when you're wrong.

On the Wings Of An Angel, We can lay our heads and cry. Love is how they do it, Angels don't need wings to fly!

Love Is The Reason

The basket is filled with candy, The eggs are hidden well. The Easter bunny is hopping around, Where he hides them is hard to tell.

Easter is fun for the little ones, With hopes and dreams to share. Living for birthdays and holidays, Full of love and smiles to spare.

Love Is The Reason for Easter. How much God cares for you and me. He gave the life of his only Son, On a cross, made from a rugged tree.

The pain and ridicule Jesus suffered, He endured gracefully to set us free. Free from a life of temptation and sin, So we can live with him for eternity.

Jesus died that day on the cross! Entombed three days, to rise and live again. The resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ, Is truly, how Easter began!

The Living Well

In church, I was told of a well, That cleanses beyond the flesh. Where the water never runs dry, It's always pure and fresh.

Why did I need that water? There were so many other wells. Where the water was fun to gather, You could find it on so many trails.

One day, I started to realize, The water turning stagnant and dry. It was no longer fun to gather, Consumption would cause me to die.

My thought returned to the well, They had told me about in church. The well of the living water, To drink of and never thirst.

I decided to turn around, Go back and find the trail. The one that takes me to the path, That leads to The Living Well!

Soul Manual

Since the beginning, Our body may have a tomorrow? Just one more day, For our soul to borrow. Our body endures great grief, It endures much pain. Yet, it manages to conquer, Heavy snow, sleet and rain. Our body is built, Like a fine tuned machine. It comes with no instructions, There is no in between.

Our soul has a manual, To keep it reliable. To have faith in Christ Jesus, It is known as the Bible. If we follow it's instructions, We'll be delivered from sin. Saved by the holy spirit, To become, born again. It will take our soul to heaven, On the wings of a dove. Where we'll walk hand in hand, With the angels above. It will guide us safely, To that heavenly junction. If we just follow, The Soul Manual instruction!

In His Loving Arms

Time as we know it, Only stands still. Another precious day, To do God's will.

Give me his grace, Give me his love. Only God can give, From Heaven above.

Without God's will, I'm only a sheep. In his loving arms, A lamb to keep!

Resurrection

Intentions of the soul, Are sometimes surpassed, By the hypnotism of flesh. Seducing the soul with empty Resurrection!

Righteousness leads to holiness, Holiness leads to eternal peace. Denying the soul of emptiness, Awakening the hypnotism of flesh!

A Man I Never Met

For my crimes I was sentenced, Sentenced to die alone! The courts couldn't pardon, The crimes I had done.

A Man I Never Met, Stood up and calmly said, "I know he is guilty, Will you take me instead?"

This man continued to say, "All I ask of him, That he ask for forgiveness, For redemption from sin."

This man I never met, Took my place of guilt. He will die for my sins, But, a new man is built.

I dropped to my knees, Pleaded the courts' forgiveness! I asked, " Please tell me his name." They said, " His name is Jesus!"

LOVE

'Tis Your Love

'Tis Your Love, Flows through my veins. As chills in my spine, From cold winter rains.

Just your touch, In the early morning hours. Generates my pollen, Like the anther of wild flowers.

The whisper of your lips, Gently touching my ear. Ignites my senses, Admonishes my fear.

The tips of my fingers, Breezing your delicate skin. Kissing your feet softly, Caressing your shin.

From top to bottom, As a teardrop stains. 'Tis Your Love, Flows through my veins!

Sweet Resistance

The night of Sweet Resistance, Was the night I saw your face. You turned and smiled at me, As my heart began to race!

I never saw it coming, You put a hold on me. I tried to lock you out, But you held the magic key.

It must have been your smile, Or, the way you blinked your eyes. My night of Sweet Resistance, Became our morning of sweet sunrise!

Endless Searching

When I first learned of love, Pieces of my heart I suddenly lost. I looked and searched about, Not knowing where, they could have been tossed.

I searched for many lonely years, Looking in all the wrong places. Finding holders of missing pieces, Never connecting, in many cases.

After all the endless searching, I thought I should finally surrender. For the pieces that I had lost, I could never find a mender.

Then with a sparkle in your eyes, With the captivation of your smile. I knew the Endless Searching, Indeed was worth the while!

Bewildered

I sit here this morning, As the rays of sunshine. Slice through the window pane. Bewildered by a love from my past!

I awakened to the feeling, That my love was ever strong. I dreamed we met again, After years of surety, she was gone!

I was never sure of my love for her, Or maybe, just frightened by reality, That she was my second love, After a broken heart from my first.

In my dream, I held her gently, Looked into those beautiful blue eyes. The feeling was so real, I awakened with excitement and sweat! In my mind, I juggled the thought, That my heart did really love her?

I may never find the answer. Meanwhile, I sit here Bewildered!
