As expecting mothers, it's very natural to talk and sing to your unborn baby because you feel an instant connection to them even before seeing their little face. While you may think this is soothing to you it's even more soothing for your baby! Studies show that the tones in a mother's voice help to lower fetal heart rates and help establish auditory bonds that carry on after birth. Reading to your baby specifically improves brain development and can promote early literacy skills and language development. Now don't expect your baby to come out of the womb reciting Shakespeare! But know that it definitely is a great start to introducing them to the wonders of reading and most importantly it's a great way to build an even closer bond with your little one.
