In the early days of WWII, the British shipped German POWs to Canada for internment. There, the chances of them escaping and reentering the war are slim. Until one does. Josef Von Lowe loves war. He also holds so many of the views toward people that he sees as below him. When he is shot down during a massive battle with a British fleet and shipped to Canada, he sees an opportunity to get away. He plans to make his way through the US to Mexico and the German consulate. Along the way he is humbled and humiliated by circumstances that force him to get along with the very people that he hates. He becomes human. when he is forced to beg in order to survive.
