Overview

The man who lies bleeding to death in a London brickyard is no ordinary drifter but a secret informant with
details of an international plot against the British government. Special Branch officer Thomas Pitt, hastening to
rendezvous with him, arrives seconds after the knife-wielding assassin-who, in turn, flees on an erratic course
that leads Pitt in wild pursuit to picturesque St. Malo on the French coast. Meanwhile, Pitt's supervisor, Victor
Narraway, stands accused of embezzling government funds. Since the man who ruined Narraway's career is
in Ireland, Pitt's clever wife, Charlotte, agrees to pose as Narraway's sister and accompany him to Dublin to
investigate. But unknown to Pitt and Narraway, a shadowy plotter is setting a trap that, once sprung, could
destroy not just reputations but the British empire itself.

Library Journal

Missing Charlotte and Thomas Pitt, last seen in 2008'sBuckingham Palace Gardens? They're back, tracking an informer's murderer to France and helping the head of the London Special Branches, who's discovered that a shadow from his past is about to rise again and strike. Since Buckingham sold more than 100,000 copies, expect demand.

JULY 2011 - AudioFile

Separately, Thomas and Charlotte Pitt set out to untangle webs of intrigue that, if left uncovered, could have far-reaching effects. The extensive cast of characters—ranging from Irish dissidents to Queen Victoria—is brought to life in narrator Michael Page's confident reading. He differentiates each of the lead characters through the subtle use of accents and tone. His consistent differentiation helps the listener to follow the two key plot lines that eventually come together. The apparent ease with which Page creates likable and believable characters no doubt stems from his narration of previous titles in the series. K.J.P. © AudioFile 2011, Portland, Maine
