About the Author

Wilbert S. Aronow received his M.D. from Harvard Medical School. He has edited or co-edited 11 books and authored or co-authored 1,290 papers. From 2001 to 2012, he has received yearly outstanding teacher and researcher awards from the medical residents and the cardiology fellows at Westchester Medical Center/New York Medical College. He has received awards from the Society of Geriatric Cardiology, the Gerontological Society of America, New York Medical College, and the Walter Bleifeld Memorial Award for distinguished contributions to clinical research and a Distinguished Fellowship Award from the International Academy of Cardiology. Dr. Aronow is Professor of Medicine at New York Medical College. He has been a member of 78 editorial boards, an associate editor for 11 medical journals, and a guest editor for 6 other medical journals.

Jerome L. Fleg received his M.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and has authored over 200 peer-reviewed articles and more than 100 book chapters and reviews related to cardiovascular aging and disease. He serves on multiple journal editorial boards and is an associate editor for the Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Prevention.

Michael W. Rich received his M.D. from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Chicago, and he has published over 250 journal articles and more than 50 books and book chapters. Dr. Rich is an associate editor for the American Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.

Description: This thorough guide to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease in the elderly covers a wide range of topics, each in sufficient detail and with supporting references. The previous edition was published in 2008.
Purpose: The purpose is to arm clinicians with the information they need to treat older patients with heart disease.
Audience: The book is appropriate for all practitioners who treat elderly patients, including cardiologists, general practitioners, and geriatricians.
Features: The book covers the gamut of topics in cardiology, from the diagnosis of coronary artery disease to the full evaluation of valvular disease. Its best feature is the breadth of information that it covers succinctly. Each chapter begins with a summary that gives a quick overview of what will be discussed.
Assessment: For the many clinicians taking care of an ever-aging population, this book is a great resource.
