Purpose: According to the author, the aim of this book is to make available a fusion of the contemporary investigational and practical issues of this disease. For those involved in the research and treatment of patients with type 1 diabetes, this represents a uniquely accessible way to make sure they have an up-to-date, working knowledge of a wide-ranging spectrum of issues.
Audience: This book is appropriate for endocrinologists both in practice and in training, and researchers involved in the many areas that interface with type 1 diabetes.
Features: The first section provides a sound discussion of our understanding of the etiology of the disease, providing the reader with an excellent working knowledge to assess possible future prevention strategies. The clinical chapters are well organized, authored by known experts, and provide excellent summaries of cutting edge management. The final chapters devoted to islet transplantation and the relevant scientific issues are timely and enlightening. All chapters are well referenced and overlap of issues is kept to a reasonable minimum. Minor typographical errors are present at low level.
