Description: This is a comprehensive, yet succinct review of a wide variety of topics related to the medical care of patients with type 2 diabetes.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide an updated review of the demographics, epidemiology, pathophysiology, and medical care of patients with type 2 diabetes. Although most of this information can be found elsewhere, this is a thorough and well written go-to resource on these topics.
Audience: It is written for practicing physicians and other healthcare professionals, and is appropriately written and researched at this level.
Features: The book covers a wide array of topics relevant to understanding the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes and related cardiometabolic disorders as well as evidence-based care of these patients. I was most impressed with the up-to-date and comprehensive evidence-based approach to the topics. The illustrations are sufficient but minimal, and color would have been helpful in many instances (i.e. ophthalmology pictures).
Assessment: This is a very useful as a reference for endocrinologists and internists. This second edition is useful and contains much current information (i.e. use of incretin-based therapy).
