About the Author

Patricia Thomas is a mother of four wonderful children and a grandmother of eight beautiful grandchildren. She has been a certified nursing assistant for more than twenty years. She started her career as a certified nursing assistant right before Ronald Reagan passed the Omnibus Reconciliation Act which set standards for certified nursing assistants training in 1997. Back then it was a very modest but rewarding career to embark on, her first nursing assistant job description was: passing ice, making beds, assisting with showers and making each resident feel comfortable and at home. But it came a time when her careers had changed, she then found herself working as an assistant day care worker, that was also one of her passions. After years of working with children she decided that her real passion was working with the elderly. By that time nursing assistants had to have formal training. So, she enrolled in a nursing assistant class at Max Hayes Vocational High School located in Cleveland Ohio where she successfully completed a six-month program and went on to begin her career as a certified nursing assistant at Lakewood Nursing and
Rehabilitation. That was the name at the time, she was grateful because of the certification she was able to move her and her children off welfare, out of low income housing and helped her start her first business selling nursing uniforms and accessories. She could not have been happier, to this date Patricia has seen the ups and downs, the good and the bad in the healthcare field, but because of the passion she has to work with the elderly, she continues to work with question marks lingering. Who really knows but her if she would continue in this field until retirement age, but she wants to send an encouraging word to all nursing assistants across the world.

YOU ARE THE BACKBONE OF HEALTHCARE, YOU ARE VALUABLE, YOU DO MATTER, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE WILL!
