About the Author

Louis C. Gapenski, PhD, is a professor of health services administration with a specialization in corporate and healthcare finance at the University of Florida. He is the author of 30 textbooks, which are used worldwide and include Canadian and international editions as well as translations in eight languages. He has published 40 journal articles related to corporate and healthcare finance and is active in several professional associations.

Noting that the existing textbooks on health care finances were about accounting and institutional detail, Gapenksi (health services administration and finance, U. of Florida) set out to produce one that focuses on analysis and decision making. He takes a broad definition of the health services industry, and identifies the environmental factors that are unique to it and so make financial management in it different from corporate finance. The text is for a graduate course; most students have had some background in basic business topics, but a great deal of background is supplied.
