Description: This is the first edition of a comprehensive guide to the latest advances in pharmacology and neuromodulation for migraine treatment. The book includes updates on established acute and preventive treatments, including botulinum toxin A for chronic migraine. The book provides a review on updates in calcitonin gene-related peptide pathway inhibitor, both the monoclonal antibodies, and gepants for migraine treatment. Special considerations such as menstrual-related migraine, pregnancy and breastfeeding, and children and adolescents are discussed. The book emphasizes underlying mechanisms and associated targeted therapies.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide an update on recently established acute and preventive migraine treatments. The book discusses updates in mechanisms, genetics, and imaging. Important comorbidities such as sleep disorders and medication overuse are reviewed. The book discusses the underlying biology of migraine as it relates to standard treatments but with a focus on CGRP monoclonal antibodies and gepants and neuromodulation. The visual system as a therapeutic target as well as visual snow syndrome are discussed.

Features: The best part of the book is the detailed review of various drug treatments for migraine. The book also does an excellent job of explaining the underlying migraine mechanisms for which the drug therapies target. The book is written with clarity and is organized in a systematic way. Innovative topics such as visual snow syndrome in addition to visual symptom as a target are discussed. The book also emphasizes the latest understanding of the trigeminovascular system and the role of CGRP. The shortcoming of the book is that it does not cover non-pharmacological approaches other than neuromodulation. Transcutaneous trigeminal stimulation is not represented.
Assessment: The book provides a high level and comprehensive review of migraine pathophysiology, pharmacology, and neuromodulation. It is of a high quality and value and provides useful clinical information and insight from a patient-oriented research perspective.
