About the Author

About The Author
Edith Wharton (1862-1937) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning American novelist, poet, designer and short story writer. Born Edith Newbold Jones to a wealthy New York family, the saying "Keeping up with the Joneses" is said to refer to her father's family. Wharton's privileged upbringing gave her valuable insight into America's upper classes, which were the primary subject of her insightful and entertaining novels. She lived the final decades of her life in France, becoming an ardent supporter of French Imperialism. Her novel, THE AGE OF INNOCENCE was completed in France and earned the first Pulitzer Prize by a woman.
