The contributors are, for the most part, academic vascular and general surgeons. The contributors come from the U.S., the U.K., Sweden, Holland, Italy, Switzerland, Argentina, Australia, and Japan. However, like the two editors, most of them come from the U.S. and the U.K. Institutions prominently represented include UCLA, Univ of Rochester, Albany Medical Coll, UCSF, Northwestern Univ Medical School, Mayo Medical School, and Ochsner Clinic.

Description: This book, in its fifth edition, is primarily an atlas of operative techniques and exposures in general vascular surgery.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide an updated compendium of definitive vascular surgical techniques. Within the text, preoperative assessment, intraoperative procedural details, potential intraoperative pitfalls, and postoperative complications and their prevention are discussed in clear and concise fashion.
Audience: This book is targeted for medical students, general surgery residents, vascular surgery fellows, and to a lesser degree practicing vascular surgeons. Though published in England, more than half of the chapters are written by contributors who currently practice in the U.S. The remainder of the authors represent an international panel of experts, largely from Great Britain. The authors and contributors are well respected in their fields.
Features: Topics are intelligently organized, and the breadth of coverage in this book is comprehensive. Chapters are dedicated to surgery of cerebrovascular, aneurysm, and arterial occlusive disease as well as covering miscellaneous topics including angiography, portal hypertension, and thoracic outlet syndrome. Recent and promising innovations such as endovascular, venous, and lymphatic techniques are described in addition to standard arterial procedures. Coverage of topics is balanced and personal bias is largely acknowledged. The book is well illustrated, predominantly with black-and-white line drawings. References are highly selected and primarily encompass classic articles, but many up-to-date references are provided as well.
Assessment: This remains a definitive and classic atlas of general vascular surgery. It is comprehensive and complete in scope. It is contemporary with the inclusion of selected, recent innovations in the field. Few omissions exist. The book is an indispensable resource for residents, fellows, and practitioners of vascular surgery.
