About the Author

John Alston (January 4, 1956- May 25, 2020) was gifted with the ability to sketch everything from memory. From the first time he held a pencil he could entertain with drawings from his imagination. He sat through many classes, and many weekly meetings, with people looking over his shoulder being amused with his comical drawings.

His sense of humor showed in his illustrations. He was witty and could always laugh at himself. He often cracked himself up as he sketched because of the bizarre and outlandish expressions on his characters.

In Vikings Love Ice Cream his first children's picture book, he shows that picture books aren't just for children. There's a lesson to be learned and it's more than just about Vikings going berserk over ice cream and a missing cow.

He believed that picture books were more for adults who kept the child alive in them.

John was born in Lawrence, MA and grew up in Hampton Falls, NH. He was of Scottish descent and had traced his roots back to Tancrede the Viking. He received a Fine Arts Degree from the University of New Hampshire. He has one son Thomas and daughter in law Joy, two step daughters Lisa and Amy, and 5 grandchildren. He met the love of his life in 2003, his wife Debbie Gaudreau, author and illustrator.
