Overview

In the human being a restlessness, a certain stirring in the brain, can cause us to feel there is more to the universe than what we sense with instruments or reason from the stimuli to our senses. I feel that restlessness, and I have come to sense it is caused by a collective consciousness in the universe that beckons me to a realization that we are part and one with all elements of creation to which I am called, ever so subtly, to listen.

About the Author

Dick Walker is a convinced Friend and is presently a member of Wider Quaker Fellowship. He lives in Northern Arizona and is a research astronomer. He has published several articles about binary stars and satellites of the outer planets, and has recently completed the second novel of a trilogy, which expounds his theory that World War II still causes suffering in our world.
This pamphlet is an attempt of self expression made to describe and share ineffable common denominators in human experiences. With this writing he tries to bridge a chasm of reticence between kindred souls.
I am most grateful to the editor of Friends Journal who granted permission to use “The Kite,” which appeared in print November 1, 1985.
This essay is dedicated to my memory of Mary Christine Campbell (1910-1985), one of the founders of the Flagstaff Religious Society of Friends. She was a scholar in so many fields, not just well read, but with a deep understanding of many things. Mary was a friend and a prompter of my heart. In the silence I still feel her goodness, and am blessed when she speaks to the ear of my soul.
