Description:Written by pediatric dermatologists, this book emphasizes clinical characteristics of common pediatric dermatoses. The many superb color photographs, taken by the well-known pediatrician, Dr. Nancy Esterly, alone justify the price of the book. A differential diagnosis is listed for each condition, and many of the chapters discuss the finer points of differentiating clinically between the diagnostic possibilities. Great clinical pearls in managing, diagnosing, and evaluating patients are summarized by bullet points.
Purpose:The purpose is to educate dermatologists and pediatricians in the diagnosis of dermatoses in children.
Audience:The audience is dermatologists, residents, and pediatricians.
Features:An online feature provides additional color photographs of more conditions. Users also can enter a description of lesions and their distribution on a patient, and a differential diagnosis list will be generated, including accompanying clinical photographs to help arrive at a diagnosis.
Assessment:This is a wonderful educational reference. It's also great fun to use the differential diagnosis generator (an access code allows readers to use the service online). This is a novel and useful clinical tool that readers can easily access in the office, especially if they have a computer in their exam rooms. This book shares the nuances and secrets for honing your diagnostic skills to the "concert" level.
