As pastors in the Desert Southwest Conference of the United Methodist Church, we have found that we have dog-eared a few books which were simply a collection of sermons. Over twenty years ago I sat over coffee with a colleague and drafted the idea of compiling the best preaching the Desert Southwest Conference of The United Methodist Church. We invited clergy to submit a sermon to the work called, "The Voices in the Desert Southwest." The sermons in this work were preached over twenty years ago - a homiletical time capsule. The net proceeds of this work will go to the Desert Southwest Conference of The United Methodist Church.

Rev. James Butler - The American Baptists have a category of clergy that describes Jim's ministry - "Wandering Minister." Educated and ordained Southern Baptist with a M.Div. and D.Min. from Southwestern Baptist Seminary, Jim first served a Southern Baptist Church. Later he served as Elder in the United Methodist Church. For twelve years he worked in the insurance industry, earning an M.B.A. and a C.P.C.U. designation, co-inventing a published U.S. Patent owned by USAA. God was not through with him; so, he "wandered" back into six years of full-time service as Executive Pastor of The Church at Litchfield Park, Arizona. Affiliated now as a clergy with the International Council of Community Churches, he and his wife, Carol, live in the Verde Valley of Arizona.
