Overview

The American Revolution was not simply a fight to separate from Britain and did not end with the 1783 Treaty of Paris. The creation of the Republic in 1788, with the ratification of the Constitution, and the establishment of the Republic during the Washington Presidency were all part of one seamless revolution, lasting 21 years, and throughout that revolution, the continuing indispensable leader was George Washington.
