About the Author

Col. “Red” Reeder has been associated with the Army all his life. He was an outstanding athlete at West Point, and directed athletics for the Army for two years in the Canal Zone. In 1942 he was sent by General Marshall to New Guinea and Guadalcanal. More than one million copies of his report on this trip were printed and used as training manuals.

Col. Reeder’s military service extended until his retirement in 1945, when he was seriously wounded in action in Normandy. For 20 years he served as Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics at West Point. He is the author of more than 36 books.
