About the Author

Gabriela Popa was born and raised in Romania. Her work has been published in both Romanian and English.

Her first novel, "Kafka's House", is a coming of age story set in 1968 Romania.

This engaging short story portrays a vivid slice of life in an extended rural Romanian family in the mid 1960s. It is a cultural montage with strong humanistic and moral overtones. The writing is excellent--fresh, colorful, authentic. The story is only eight pages, but the characters are artfully brought to life and reside in the reader's mind long after the last word has been read. It is a satisfying, literary, thoughtful piece.
