White Christmas Homecoming: A Legend is Reborn
One month before a chance meeting at Novello's restaurant in Florida between Bob, Phil and The Haynes Sisters, an unexpected meeting between the two men and Captain Joe Ross outside the YMCA in New York reunites the old army pals. Seeing Joe struggle with his lingering war injuries, Bob and Phil invite him to a performance of their Broadway show Playing Around. At the show he meets seamstress Evie and her young son Bobby. Joe falls hard for Evie and then invites Bobby to come to the Y to play basketball.
Meanwhile, Playing Around still attracts a crowd, but Bob and Phil detect the show is in trouble. After conferring with big band leader Count Basie and old army pal and television personality Ed Harrison, Bob and Phil hire on new dancers and make plans to take the show to Florida where they'll introduce the audience to the latest craze in showbiz— choreography. Louis Armstrong and band leader Tito Rodriguez make surprise appearances along the way.
As plans ramp up for the show in Florida, a budding relationship has developed between Evie and Joe which leads to a Thanksgiving invitation. During the meal, Evie finds out that Joe was in the army, and for reasons that only she knows she pulls away.
As Joe wrestles with the loss of Evie and with his own demons, General Tom Waverly is wrestling with the reality of losing the Columbia Inn to bankruptcy. The coming of Bob and Phil bring a measure of hope. As Bob and Phil concoct a plan to bring the 151st Division to Vermont, the people of Pine Tree must rally and devise a plan to provide food and lodging for the invasion of men, women and children coming to honor the General.
Joe hears the Christmas Eve show announcement on the Ed Harrison Show, but his inner demons won't allow him to see the General or the men of his Division. A surprise visit from Bob allows him a moment of clarity and with the help of old friend Lillian, Joe must decide if he has the courage to face General Waverly and Evie one last time.
