Alexandra shuffled through the kitchen, her left shoe dragging but her right shoe fit, almost.

Mother covered her face with both hands and peeked at Alexandra through her fingers. "What am I going to do with you? You've been trying on shoes all week. Ever since your Aunt and her family have arrived."
