Overview

Wilder is an ode to the desert, a collection of Coyote poems. Coyote appears in many native stories and traditions. He can be many things, a trickster, a creator, evil or benevolent. For me, he is somewhat of an alter-ego. In poetry, he often helps me find words for what has been long unsaid. Although some of these poems were written years ago, I have been adding the finishing touches to this collection while living high in the Rocky Mountains. There's snow falling outside yet again, the temperatures are unbearably low, and I ache for desert warmth. And yet even here coyotes circle the house and sing into the night. And even here, Coyote peeks into my window and asks for a poem.

About the Author

Cailey Johanna Thiessen grew up between Mexico and the United States. Although she was born in the mountains of Colorado, her heart got stuck among the maguey and nopal of Oaxaca. She lives in movement and displacement, traveling now with her husband and her French bulldog, Earl. In addition to writing poetry, she has worked in content writing, proofreading, and translation. She is an editor for Last Leaves Magazine and an assessment specialist for Educational Testing Services. This book is an ode to the deserts she has lived in, traveled through, and admired from afar.
