Overview

Survival in the early 1900s is a struggle for nearly everyone. African Americans living in the United States, find it difficult at best. But for those trying to survive in the deep south, agonizing is the word that describes it more than any other. Unrelenting poverty, social injustice, fear, the absence of educational opportunities, the threat of lynching, and the stressors of day-to-day living make survival almost impossible. Through an arranged marriage, William and Laura are bonded in the struggle together. Their worries and conflicts are like most others, but they have one ace in the hole. "William and Laura, An Extraordinary Life," tells the story of the lengths an African American family goes through to survive in this environment.

About the Author

Sandra Kaye Walker became a writer while attending high school, that’s what her teachers, family, and friends told her. Her work was published in the local newspaper and the student paper; however, life took her down a different path, and she became a Public Administrator. Upon retirement from public service in 2014, she began writing again and self-published a family history in 2019. “William and Laura”, her debut novel, tells us that she is on her way to fulfilling the promise of her talent. It has great reviews so far and is in a position to make its name known. If you read it, you may laugh and you may cry, but most of all, you'll come away smiling.
