The year is 1715. Pirates patrolled the shores, Indian tribes populated the area, while plantations built by slaves began to rise in splendor among the harsh setting that is the South Carolina coast. This is the story of Mary, a teenager who was born into slavery and who had lived her life as a house slave on an indigo plantation in the coastal swamps of South Carolina.
