Overview

"...with Compassionate Understanding, A Meditation Retreat" guides readers through a silent meditation retreat devoted to the inner journey. Rosemary & Steve Weissman have helped thousands take that journey while living and teaching at Wat Kow Tahm (Mountain Cave) International Meditation Center, Koh Pah-ngan Island, Thailand for 25 years (1988-2013), and now continuing to teach in the West.
Based on the wise, compassionate teachings of the Buddha found in Theravada Buddhism, these clear methods help train the mind in order to experience more inner peace and compassionate understanding.
An important part of this type of mental training is to develop keen awareness of our actions, speech and thoughts. This awareness, also referred to as mindfulness, is essential in order to develop clarity and strength in the mind. With this clarity and strength we are then able to see which actions, speech and thoughts lead to stress and difficulties, and which lead to peace and harmony in ourselves and in others.
The development of compassion, lovingkindness, patience, endurance, energy, equanimity, joy and wisdom is emphasized. As well, this practice helps in the letting go of qualities that interfere with our inner well being, such as greed, hatred, anger, jealousy, fear, worry, grief and ignorance.
A compassionate intention behind our actions, speech and thoughts greatly aids the development of mindfulness, and encourages us to not cause harm or difficulty for ourselves or others. As we develop this compassionate awareness within, the more we see that mindfulness is an extremely valuable way to develop our understanding of life in all aspects. Then, with this compassionate understanding, we can work toward increasing beneficial qualities and lessening unbeneficial qualities. This will create the causes and conditions that will produce more peace, contentment and deeper happiness.
We hope this book will aid many to find more peace and contentment, and to lessen difficulties and problems, with compassion, patience, lovingkindness, equanimity, joy, acceptance, and ...with Compassionate Understanding.
