Would I describe myself as a writer? No, more a story teller.
To use a clich�, I love the blank canvass of a child's mind, everything is possible when you are a child.
If you cross your eyes and twist your ears, while blowing a raspberry, do you become invisible? Of course you do.
I first started writing short stories for children in answer to a question from my four year old son put to me while building a snowman.
"Dad, where do snowflakes come from?"
In the real world, there is plenty of time to learn where snowflakes really do come from. However there is just a small window of time in which snowflakes can be made from the tails of naughty rabbits. That evening at bedtime, my son and I went on a fantastic journey of adventure with two unfortunate rabbits, Timmy and Ding, as they made their way through the dark forest to Snow Mountain, where the snow elves turned naughty rabbit tails into snowflakes.
My son is twenty four now and stands over six foot four tall. He knows where snow really comes from. On a recent visit home, he found me struggling to take an old beaten up leather chair that had been in our family for decades, out to the skip.
�You are not throwing granddads old chair away, are you?� He asked.
I remembered then, I had told him as a child the tale of it being made from the hide of the very last dinosaur. Captured by his great granddad, with nothing more than a peashooter and a small piece of chewing gum and a long piece of string. Amazing thing a child�s imagination, everything is possible.
