Overview

‘Wolves Den
Part 1 in the series
‘THE KEEPER OF BALANCE - Earth.’

SYNOPSIS

This is a psychological coming of age drama set in the near future in England. It sits nicely in the fantasy genre. The story centers on a gifted twelve year old boy named Tez and Thor his canine protector. They have moral fortitude and a resilient consciousness that initially characterizes them as self sufficient individuals. Their native intelligence soon forces Tez to the realization that the one element sadly missing from his life is the love of a family. In spite of an ever increasing body count that they manage to amass, two girls, Amelia and Chrissy support their social development and ultimately help provide the family setting they need.

The book contains both humorous and serious discussion on western society as seen by someone not raised from within. A few parts are educational. The psychological aspects are real and well researched. They form the basis for the emotive passages that tug at one’s heart strings. The romance that develops between two of the characters is both stirring and socially responsible. The book finishes on a high note but leaves a great deal of questions unanswered. These are answered in book two 'The Princes Of Ressalon'.

This book has an abundance of action that centers on the concept of social justice in its true sense as opposed to the currently impaired politically correct form. The central truism is that there are repercussions for one’s actions. The surrounding society sees Tez as a hero while society’s hierarchy see Tez as a nuisance to be dealt with. Those close to Tez believe he uses magic while Tez and Thor see it as simply, ‘doing things the other way’. The concept of magic is dealt with as a powerful and complex science with analogies to computer science.

The action sequences initially involve the baser elements of society and later include assistance from rank and file police and the SAS who are depicted as viable heroes in their own right. Tez is injured physically and emotionally on several occasions and as such is depicted as a real child as opposed to a one-dimensional superhero. These situations allow for the character’s growth and as a conduit to explain the concepts of magic.

This series is aimed at teenagers through to adults. It is an unusual coming of age story having elements of fantasy, action, mystery, death and love in all of its forms.
