About the Author

Richard Nocera is not a Ph.D. He is a hairdresser, business owner and educator. For 25 years, he sat on the hot seat in therapists' offices and examined his life under a psychological microscope to figure out why he did what he did. Add the fact that he is a Sicilian heterosexual hairdresser who has had intimate conversations with thousands of men and women for over 40 years and you get a man with a riveting perspective on the unconscious life men lead. One of the must read titles of this decade. Richard Nocera takes us on an intimate journey, where men finally acknowledge, we need to cry a little bit. Richard Nocera gives insight about the mythologies of manhood and how much their bravado, in the bedroom to the boardroom is all based on age old insecurities. We need Oprah too, maybe just not as often.

The book is written for a man’s reading pleasure but I have to believe that more women than men will be his audience. Richard is very clear that men don’t question what they are expected to do in life.  Getting married and having children, then providing for family was the only option he saw when he was young. It is a very interesting read.

Reader, disregard your preconceptions. Poignant and well written, Nocera's book is filled with insightful advise for both genders. His unique perspective will push buttons yet strip away untruths which isolate us from our loved ones and even ourselves. Exploring the development of the human spirit through childhood experience can be painful, certainly in this case. Purchase the book for yourself but share it with your son.

Very interesting. When I started the book, it made me not trust men, and not want to be in a relationship. Upon completion, you realize certain truths, not just about men, but women as well. Nocera does a great job at exposing truths, brutally honest truths. Ones you can accept, work through, and progress through, or ones you can deny, regress, and cause great pain with. I think everyone should read this book
