Words on Paper

"Life is not algebra but in life sometimes, just sometimes, two minuses make a plus."
Two strangers, Emma and Will, are divided by a misfortune and feelings of pain that only they can understand. Two of their parents have been involved in a tragic road accident leaving them on opposite sides of a tragedy. They go on with their lives but Will feels forced to make contact and delivers a hand written note (words on paper) to Emma in an effort communicate the empathy he feels for her and her family. Emma dismisses the letter, which her best friend Lucy struggles to understand. Meanwhile Will's best friend, Ben, is embarking on a new career as a stand up comedian and Will agrees to join him when Ben signs up for a two week slot at the Edinburgh Festival. By the time Will returns home Lucy has managed to get Emma to read his letter; so Will and Emma arrange an uncomfortable meeting wherein they push their feeling to one side - the tragedy seemingly too big a hurdle to overcome.
But as Ben points out," Life is not algebra, and sometimes, just sometimes two minuses make a plus." and every so often an uneven broken road can lead people from tragedy to happiness. A modern love story, with hard edges, as two people battle through their mutual history to find each other.

About the Author

Born and raised in Bristol, England. I spent my adult life in business, the majority of that time marketing cars. I eventually owned the largest Saab specialist in the world, before a divorce put an end to that part of my life.

This led me to leave Bristol to live halfway up a mountain in the Welsh Valleys, start a part time six year English Literature course at Bristol University, and attend creative writing classes in Cardiff. My interest in English literature flourished and I have won several prizes for my short stories. My first book; Twenty Short Stories - Settling a score; reached No 6 in the Short Stories Best Sellers and is still available, as is the second anthology Twenty-One (more) Short Stories
2016 was a busy year with the first of my thriller Pin-up and Tanner series - Hand Over Fist and a light hearted rom-com Chasing What's Already Gone now out into the world.
Due to demand I released my third anthology of short stories - Another Twenty-Two Short Stories in September 2016; and to round the year off the follow-up to Hand Over Fist, entitled Hand in Glove, was published in October 2016.
After a break 2021 has arrived with two new books: my 4th anthology Twenty Four Short Stories and a contemporary love story Words on Paper. Also a new website https://www.michaelrosswriter.net
I live very happily halfway up that mountain in the Welsh Valleys with my wonderful partner, Mari, and our rescue dogs, Wavy and Wenna.
