Overview

Sociologist Strangleman (Working Lives Research Institute, London Metropolitan U.) uses the railway industry as a lens through which to look at the contemporary nature of work and management in Britain. Because he particularly considers the effects of privatization however, he draws evidence from, and contributes to, wider debates on the program of privatization and the accompanying denigration of the public sector and the service ethic, on the role of management in contemporary Britain, and especially on ideas of corporate culture change.
