Gr 4–6—These mediocre offerings cover various aspects of the war. The graphic layout is interesting and colorful, but overdone. The full-page and full-spread monotone photos in various hues are overlaid with translucent white columns that contain the texts. A few color maps and numerous quarter- and half-page color photos add to the overall design. Most of the captions repeat the texts. The writing is straightforward and accurate, but gives only basic information that could be obtained from any number of other volumes or series. The information overlaps from one title to another as it is impossible to discuss one topic without including another. Some readers may find Weapons especially interesting since it features photos of the better-known firearms, artillery, tanks, planes, and ships, along with the "vital statistics" for each one. Unfortunately, the photos are in two-by-three-inch boxes, pretty small for much detail.
