About the Author

Xenophon of Athens (c. 430 – 354 BC) was an ancient Greek soldier, historian, philosopher, and biographer. Born to a wealthy family near Athens, Xenophon was a contemporary and admirer of Socrates. He journeyed extensively in the Perisan Empire as part of an expedition by Cyrus the Younger to unseat his older brother, the emperor, in 401 B.C. Xenophon wrote extensively on his travels in Persia.
