About the Author

Kevin Clifford Burke is a poet, singer and guitarist. He is the author of three books of poetry entitled: Angry June Moon Says Hello: Poem To Come Out To (2010), The Bridge of Love (2011) and now his new book of poetry XULECA LOUNGE (2022). The author is a psychoanalyst/psychotherapist in private practice. Mr. Burke also worked in the NYC child welfare field for over 30 years from which he recently retired as a manager and supervisor for NYC Children's Services in the field of continuous quality improvement for preventive services. Mr. Burke and Miguel, his husband and partner of thirty-eight years, reside in Staten Island, NY. The author is a cabaret performer, a singer/songwriter and classical guitarist who has been performing regularly in New York City cabaret venues for over a decade.

What I appreciate most about Burke's writing is his conceptual way of writing. His careful and creative use of words will evoke a strong reaction from readers; there are poems that felt surreal and beautiful while others felt dark, lonely, and isolating. Xuleca Lounge is an enlightening series of poems that describe the complexity of life. This book will encourage readers to search beyond "what is" to reach for "what could be". Rated: 4.5 stars.

This book is a variety of poems about the emotions of a man both in his journey through joys and grievances in life and some poems that are specifically about his love life with his husband. Overall note, that the poetry is well written, and the emotional language is well done...I think anyone looking for an emotional and descriptive poetry book would be happy with this one.
