Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Genealogies
Published between 1896 and 1910, George Brown's columns in the Yarmouth Herald focused almost exclusively on New England families who migrated to Nova Scotia around the time of the Revolutionary War, many of them descended from Mayflower colonists. In article after article Brown traced these families from their earliest known origins in the old world down to the end of the nineteenth century, his combined output amounting to an encyclopedia of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia families. Brown's work has been badly neglected, owing to the scarcity of the Yarmouth Herald. To rectify this situation and place this invaluable body of source materials at the disposal of the researcher, Martha and Bill Reamy put together as complete a collection of columns as possible, reset the type, and indexed the entire collection. The 186 articles name as many as 60,000 individuals. With an Introduction by the noted Nova Scotia authority Col. Leonard H. Smith Jr., and with additional articles containing selected Yarmouth source records, this is clearly the pre-eminent work on Nova Scotia genealogy.
