Yes! Life It Is

This book of poems is all about love, in all its flavors. Love for the sweetheart, love for spouse, love for parents, love for siblings, love for friends, love for God, love for nature, love for country and above all, love for life.

The poems of Bhupati Das depict various visuals of life and carry soft notes of love-waves. His stark simplicity, fluidity in tone and felicity with words come out vividly in these poems.

After a long journey of mythically exploring the love and beauty of life, Bhupati has reached a point where his writings reveal a profound understanding of life and human relationships. They reflect everything from the way a waterfall breaks up on the rocks to the sensation of drawing one’s hand through a cluster of damp marigolds.

Love has always been a blessing to him, even at the moment when it extinguishes its flame. Combining passion and sensitivity, the poems in this collection once again make people
think that the innermost beauty of poetry is to be found not only in its imagery but also in its syntax and rhythms.

His poetry is written in a language of excitement. The heightened pitch adds to the individual quality of that excitement. The poems in Yes! Life It Is also deal with his reflection on love, spirituality and openness to hope which readers can instantly trust and identify with.
Bhupati writes his poems in small case only and without using full stop, comma or semi-colon so as not to break the flow.

About the Author

Dr Bhupati Das, professionally a manager-technocrat, belongs to the generation of poets comfortable in creating pictures of moods, sensations and life in simple and lucid style. He writes his poems all in lower case without use of comma, full-stop or semicolon so as ‘not to disturb, break or interrupt the flow of thoughts’ of the reader (as he remarked once, ‘Then everyone would have equal rights to exist – God, I and the letters’). His earlier published poetry collections are: May I (1997), Life and Beyond Life (2004), Who Says (2011) and God in Colours (2013).

In his poetry, the reader notices his attempt to delve deep into human emotions, turbulence and contradictions while playing around contemporary themes to reflect his personal beliefs and internal conflicts. The poet always introduces the conscious intervention of an artistic imagination without straying from the context of life. His poems depict various visuals of life and carry soft notes of life, spirituality and love-waves. In this collection also, readers would witness reflections of ardent spirituality, flavors of life, spirits of earthen love and openness to hope, expressed in a language of excitement which one can instantly trust and identify with.

Dr Das scripted a tele-film, Call of the Valley, using his poems extensively, which was later selected for participation as India’s only entry in 23rd Japan festival for short films in 1996. Guwahati Doordarshan had produced and telecast two tele-programmes based on his poems, Man and Machine and And the Heart Awaits.

Having spent his childhood in Guwahati in India, Bhupati Das went on to do engineering from BITS, Pilani, and management from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Subsequently, he did PhD in management from Gauhati University. Having served the oil industry as Managing Director of Numaligarh Refinery Ltd and subsequently of Bharat Oman Refineries Ltd, he later completed two tenured assignments as Emeritus Professor, Dibrugarh University and as Adviser to the Centre for Leadership Development of Assam Administrative Staff College.

Dr Das presently works as a consultant, coach and trainer conducting management teaching, training and coaching programmes in universities, management institutes and various public and private sector companies in India. Presently, he lives in Guwahati, India, along with his wife, Snigdha. His two married sons, Abhinab and Shantanu, are chasing their own dreams in their chosen professional fields.
