I've lived in the Chicago area for many years and I'll never think of the city the same again! I'll think twice every time I hear an 'L' train, the Chicago mounted police will always get a second look and I really have to check out the renovated wood block streets. I loved the Chicago history and Civil War detail right down to the St. Michael's chimes. The characters are captivating from the beautiful Amanda, perseverant, sexy Mark, 'tell it like it is' godmother Mary.

The author is a skilled at her craft, understanding how to fashion compelling, realistic characters, using dialogue and description to bring her fictional people to life. She "shows, rather than tells," so you really get caught up in the story. As a result, I found it difficult to put the book down.
