Overview

Faced with his most disturbing case yet, Detective Superintendent Roy Grace tracks a serial killer in You Are Dead, by award winning crime author Peter James.

A series of young women - all beautiful, all with long brown hair - have been stalked and abducted. Each victim is found with a brand on their body, a marking that reads `U R Dead'. And some of their remains are from thirty years ago.

When Logan Somerville is taken while on the phone to her fiancé, Grace must find a lead, connect the cases and track down the killer before they can strike again . . .

Although the Roy Grace novels can be read in any order, You Are Dead is the eleventh thrilling title in the bestselling series. Enjoy more of the Brighton detective's investigations with Love You Dead and Need You Dead.

Now a major ITV series, Grace, starring John Simm.

★ 08/24/2015
At the start of James’s superior 11th procedural featuring Det. Supt. Roy Grace (after 2014’s Want You Dead), Jamie Ball is talking with his fiancée, Logan Somerville, on his cell phone when he hears her scream. Logan was just pulling into the underground garage of their apartment building in Brighton, England. That same day in Brighton, workers discover a woman’s skeleton that was buried more than 30 years earlier under a park’s asphalt sidewalk. The new and the old cases appear to be unrelated, until Grace and his Sussex Major Crime Team find a common link in the disappearances of young women through the years. As the detectives deal with the caseload, they also cope with a favorite colleague’s death. Despite Roy’s second marriage and five-month-old son, he’s still haunted by the unsolved 10-year disappearance of Sandy, his first wife, especially when a friend mentions that she may be living in Germany. Carefully crafted, realistic characters make this entry a standout. Agent: Carole Blake, Blake Friedmann Literary (U.K.). (Oct.)

From the Publisher

Peter James has penetrated the inner workings of police procedures, and the inner thoughts and attitudes of real detectives, as no English crime writer before him. His hero, Roy Grace, may not be the most lively cop, nor the most damaged by drink, weight or misery, but he's one of the most believable” —The Times

“Peter James is one of the best crime writers in the business” —Karin Slaughter

“James just gets better and better and deserves the success he has achieved with this first-class series” —Independent on Sunday

“Meticulous research gives his prose great authenticity . . . James manages to add enough surprises and drama that by the end you’re rooting for the police and really don’t know if they will finally get their men” —Sunday Express

Huffington Post

May just be [Peter James'] best yet. . . . Truly masterful. . . . James is a master of background noises and images. . . . [which] lure the reader into the already compelling but often disturbing mesh of his narrative. . . . A book you really can't put down!
