Overview

In these pages, clinical social worker and creative
play psychotherapist, Dr. Natalie Yates, invites you
to consider the landscape of your own life, and
what it might look like to be a believer of Christ and
His word, but STILL seek the health of a therapist.
As she puts it: "Why did I think that it was okay to
see a doctor whenever I was sick or had a problem,
but that I couldn't go see a therapist to help me to
feel better? It was pretty much the same thing. My
emotions and my brain didn't feel well so, why did I
feel so ashamed with needing help? "
"You Can Pray..." is an invitation to this journey that
changed Natalie's perspective and life. Written in
her warm and vulnerable style, this reflective essay
focuses on the most important transformation in
her life, and maybe yours too: leaving behind the
misconception of ministry vs. mental health.
"You Can Pray..." is a hand reaching out, pulling
you from the constant pressure to pray endlessly
and believe harder, all while we discover that our
disappointments can be the divine appointments
our souls need to radically encounter God through
therapy. Natalie offers an honest account of what
led her to begin this journey and a compelling
vision of her healing through therapy and prayer.
Filled with truth and conviction, "You Can Pray..."
encourages and inspires on many levels and is a
necessary "first step" towards the wonderful, joyful
future God intends for you.
