Overview

Zangadoo Kangaroo—a soft-hearted marsupial—lives with his mum, dad, and bouncing baby brother Joey in the town of Zillaroo, Australia. He's been moping about a bit at home since Joey the Wonderful was born and stole his parents' attention. So, it is a Big Day indeed for Zangadoo when his dad lets him take the mysterious family boomerang to the playground. But when Wally Wombat throws the boomerang, it gets stuck in the top of a gum tree! Zangadoo leaps to rescue it...but what would have been a normal kangaroo-hop turns into a magical flying leap that takes him all the way into the wilds of the Australian Outback! Adventures with grumpy crocodiles and hungry dingoes ensue.

This is the sometimes funny, sometimes hair-raising, sometimes heartwarming story of how Zangadoo finds his way home...with no help at all from chirpy troublemaker Barnaby Budgie. The first title in the Zangadoo Kangaroo and Friends series of illustrated chapter books! (Note: The e-book edition has full-color illustrations, the 94-page paperback has black-and-white illustrations.) (Ages 6 & older, or younger for reading aloud)

About the Author

Karin Lee grew up with a toy koala her parents brought her from Australia. It had very soft fur, but surprisingly sharp claws. To this day she remains fascinated by unusual Australian animals, especially platypuses. She is a children's book author, freelance editor, and reviewer in Seattle, Washington, where there are no koalas or kangaroos but plenty of octopuses and oysters.

As a kid, Scott Porterfield got a foam boomerang stuck in a tree in his parents' backyard. He tried and tried to knock it loose by spraying it with a hose, but it's still there to this day. Scott has been a cartoonist from a very young age and still finds satisfaction in bringing characters to life...now as a game animator and illustrator in Seattle. In his leisure hours, he spends time--preferably outdoors--with his wife, daughter, and a black dingo he insists is a black lab.
