Karen Hesse

Best known for her book written in verse Out of the Dust, which won a Newbery Medal in 1997, Karen Hesse is an acclaimed author of children’s literature. Out of the Dust is a heartrending story about a girl trying to cope during the Dust Bowl. Many of her most notable books are steeped in history, including Witness, Stowaway, and Letters from Rifka.
