Getting Down and Dirty!: Community Gardens

Many neighborhoods have ugly, problem places. That doesn't mean these places have to stay ugly forever! Across the country, many people are identifying ugly places and changing them by turning them into beautiful community gardens.

By turning unsightly lots into gardens, some communities have seen a change in the neighborhood. People who would have moved away are staying and getting to know their neighbors better. This in turn helps make the neighborhood safer.
