Amadeo Vives Roig nació en Collbató (Barcelona), el 18 de noviembre de 1871, y falleció en Madrid, el 2 de diciembre de 1932. Prolífico compositor de canciones, óperas, operetas y zarzuelas; destaca hasta nuestros días por estas últimas, contándose entre sus obras algunas tan fundamentales como Maruxa, Bohemios o Doña Francisquita, obra cumbre del género. A partir de 1900 se traslada a Madrid, ciudad que alternará con su Barcelona natal, cosechando en ambas sus mayores éxitos teatrales.
